March 29, 2017 : Coaching students gain valuable experience at clinic
Ohio University Southern coaching students led by Steve Call, instructor of Recreation and Sports Sciences, attended the Ohio High School Football Association annual coaching clinic Feb. 2-5. During the clinic, they assisted with registrations, speaker introductions and participated in the educational sessions.
Featured speakers included Urban Meyers Ohio State University’s head coach, new University of Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell and Jesse Williams Ohio University’s defensive line coach. Other presenters were Division I assistant coaches and Ohio High School State Champion coaches.

Call said, “Not only did the students have the opportunity to interact with over 2000 coaches they got to hear great talks on the fundamentals, tactics and techniques of the game.” He added, “The vendor fair blew them away with all of the gear and football related products on display. I think a couple of students also get some leads on graduate coaching assistantships. Overall it was a tremendous learning experience. We’ll continue to offer these experiential opportunities in coaching education courses.”
Clinic Director Gerald Cooke’s said to students, “A key part of one's professional life is becoming not only a member but an active member of the professional organizations. If you all stay in Ohio and join the football coaching fraternity; please make being active as a member in the Ohio HS Football Coaches Association a priority.”
