August 30, 2017 : Southernpalooza kicks off the new academic year at the Southern Campus
Shafer Courtyard on Ohio University’s Southern Campus completely transformed into Southernpalooza, which included music, food, games, bounce houses and more, on Aug. 15. In its first year, Southernpalooza was a fun and family-friendly event open to the community. It was also a unique way to cap off a day of thanking scholarship donors and welcoming scholarship recipients and new students to campus.

Dean of Ohio University Southern, Dr. Nicole Pennington, addressed incoming students and their families. Then, the faculty and staff members taught incoming students the Ohio University cheer.

Robert Pleasant, associate director of the Student Resource Commons, said that all of the events were designed to create a buzz about the upcoming academic year.
“Students across our region are getting back into the swing of a new school year, so we wanted to offer a fun celebration for everyone,” Pleasant said. “It was fantastic to see new and familiar faces enjoying themselves for the night. Also, for our students, we want them to see that a non-residential campus offers student-centric activities for them.”
