Job Description

Ohio University student employees are student leaders. Student employees are responsible for welcoming prospective students and guests to Ohio University as well as providing quality customer service to current students seeking assistance.  Student employees in the Admission Department promote school spirit and a positive image of Ohio University through campus tours, recruitment events, and through communication with prospective students by phone, e-mail, and in-person. 

  • Work as a student leader in promoting Ohio University and providing accurate information to potential new students and family members.

  • Assist in the coordination of various outreach activities including, but not limited to, open houses, workshops, resource fair, campus days, and welcome week.

  • Visit local high schools for recruitment events.

  • Represent the university at various community outreach functions and events. 

  • Communicate with prospective students via phone and email. 

  • Conduct timely and effective follow-up with all prospective students.

  • Schedule and provide group and individual campus tours to university guests.

  • Assist students in admissions process.

  • Assist with New Student Orientation.

  • Assist with various on-campus events.

  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of admissions deadlines and requirements.

  • Work productively and cooperatively with all members of the university community. 

  • Attend and participate in all required training as assigned.

  • Work in the front office/lobby area as needed.

  • Assist with general office work as needed.

  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

MUST be a current Ohio University student

Student should have a 3.0 GPA or greater at the time of hire & must maintain at least a 2.75 GPA to continue working in the Admissions department. 

MUST be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours per semester (exception summer semester) 

MUST be able to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment

Have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel 

The student must be able to work 10-20 hours per week, as needed, which may include evening and weekend on-campus and off-campus events.

Preferred: have attended Ohio University for at least one year.

Office of Student Services

Ohio University Southern Campus - Ironton

Job Description

  • Responsible for handling front office reception, greeting guests, answering phones and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist Office of Student Service staff with event planning and execution.
  • Cross train in all aspects of the Office of Student Services including Library Services, Veterans Services, Accessibility Services, Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives, College Credit Plus, and Testing Center Services.
  • Support recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts for the university by assisting with new student orientation, promote student engagement, and increase awareness of college services.
  • Work as a student leader in promoting Ohio University Southern and providing accurate information.
  • Will display pride in being an OHIO Southern student and will represent the student body at university and community events
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as directed.
  • 20 hours per week with limited evening and weekend hours for special events.

Nursing Department

OHIO Southern Nursing Department is now hiring student employees. This position is not open to nursing or pre-nursing students. The position will require basic office skills such as filing, creating files, database maintenance, typing and organizational skills, as well as knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Facilities Management Department

Ohio University Southern Campus - Ironton

The Ohio University Southern Campus in Ironton is seeking a part-time student worker for the Facilities Management Department.  This 20-hour per week position involves miscellaneous physical activities associated with the maintenance of the physical surroundings at the Southern Campus.  Only Ohio University Southern students are eligible to apply.  Work hours will be scheduled around academic requirements and to meet the needs of the Department.  Some early morning, evening, or weekend work hours may be required.  State of Ohio minimum wage laws apply.

The desired candidate should possess a strong work ethic, be capable of receiving and following instruction, and be willing and able to participate in strenuous physical activity at times. The ability to work outdoor during all weather conditions is required. Common job related tasks as a part of the Facilities Management team includes assistance with or involvement in the following:

  • Landscaping: Pull weeds in plant beds all over campus, put mulch down and keep fluffed up (this is the main job in the summer)
  • Trim bushes, trees with direction, edging flower beds with the weed eater
  • Pick up trash in the parking lots, landscaped campus areas
  • Help set up and knock down for special events, graduation and other events inside and outside of our buildings. (NOTE: some events owuld require change of work schedule to other hours)
  • Sanding and painting everything from walls, handrails, doors and furniture
  • Clearing campus from possible storm damage (picking up limbs, leaves, etc.)
  • Clearing snow during winter seasons
  • Moving furniture and equipment

Candidates with previous experience in landscape maintenance, maintenance, construction, or the willingness to learn is preferred.  Personal and educational enrichment opportunities exist for the self motivated student.   Such opportunities include involvement in projects associated with campus sustainability, energy conservation, landscape/horticultural projects, and other projects involving the growth and betterment of the Southern Campus.   Come see how you can make a difference and apply your talents or learn new skills.

Student Library Assistant

Job Description and Duties

The student library assistant helps support essential library services by staffing the service desk, assisting users, and maintaining collections. Desired qualifications and specific job duties are listed below.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Customer service oriented with an ability to interact with diverse populations.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work independently.
  • Practices excellent time management.
  • Reliable and able to report to assigned work shifts.
  • Knowledge of general office and basic computer skills (including Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Some knowledge of library searching skills preferred, not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Staffing/serving as point of contact at the service desk.
  • Helping library users access electronic and print library collections.
  • Processing library materials including checking items in/out.
  • Shelving returned items and maintaining orderly shelves.
  • Trouble-shooting equipment/hardware issues and assisting users with software questions.
  • Performing general data entry of library statistics.
  • Other duties as assigned.
