Nursing B.S.N.

The four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing provides the classroom and clinical education to prepare graduates for the challenges of complex and changing health-care systems. Classes are held at Ohio University Southern, with clinical training taking place at hospitals and clinics in the W.Va., Ohio, and KY Tri-State area.  All candidates accepted to the program enter as pre-BSN majors. During the summer between the first and second years, successful pre-majors are selected to advance to the BSN major. After completing the final three years of the program, student nurses graduate and take a licensure exam.

Application Process

ALL of the following requirements must be satisfied and in the nursing office before 5:00 pm on February 1st of the year in which you want your file to reviewed (considered) by the selection committee. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that his/her file is complete.

  1. Complete a nursing application in the nursing office.
  2. Complete an application to Ohio University Southern with pre-nursing (ND 0210) listed as your major, along with the $20 nonrefundable application fee (or complete a change of major to pre-nursing ND 0210 if already an OU student in a different program).
  3. Submit official transcripts (in sealed envelopes) from all previous schools attended, including college, vocational/technical programs, and high school/GED. Students must be a graduate of high school or hold certificate of high school equivalency (GED).
  4. Submit official ACT scores. A minimum of 23 is required for students wishing to enter the program straight from high school.
  5. An established minimum college grade point average of a 2.75 (or a high school GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for students wishing to enter the program straight from high school).
  6. The applicant must have completed courses in algebra, biology, and chemistry at the high school or college level with a minimum grade of a C in each course before the deadline.
  7. ACCUPLACER Placement Test is required for all new students. Please schedule an appointment for your placement exam through RegisterBlast. You must place into a Tier I Math and English or complete the required developmental courses PRIOR to the deadline. Transfer students do not have to take the ACCUPLACER exam if they have a course in English or Math that transfers from a previous college. This includes developmental courses, ENG D150, and MATH D005.
  8. HESI A2 Nursing Admissions Exam, students must have an overall score of a 75% on the A2 in both Math and English. It is also required to test in Science, no minium score required for this section. This test will be administered each fall semester. To schedule an appointment visit registerblast.com/ous. Test codes can be purchased in Student Services.
  9. Applicants will be required to have a completed FBI and BCI fingerprint report (criminal background check). This will be completed after you have been selected for the program.

Students are responsible for submitting all required information by the deadline and incomplete files will not be reviewed during selections. We encourage you to begin taking support courses at Ohio University Southern as soon as possible. All support courses taken in the nursing curriculum must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or above in order to have your file reviewed for selections and to remain in the program once selected. All Nursing courses are required to have a grade letter of a 'B' or higher. Support courses must be taken prior or during the semester in which they fall in the curriculum map shown below. Prior to February 1st, you must have completed all support courses listed on the curriculum in Semester 1 with a “C” or better.

Disclaimer: Even if all of the above is completed prior to the deadline, you will still have to go through the selection process to determine if you will be chosen for advancement into the second year of the BSN Program. Completion of all of the above does not ensure you will be accepted.
