Scripps Day 2013 to focus on partnership opportunities, post-graduation success

ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 2, 2013)—The eighth annual Scripps Day will take place Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, on the main campus of Ohio University in Athens. The program will focus on opportunities available as a result of the partnership between the Scripps Howard Foundation and the Scripps College of Communication as well as students' professional skill development and post-graduate success.

"That reflection is exciting, because it really brings together the outstanding work of our faculty, students and staff into a unified message about the college," said the Scripps College of Communication Dean Scott Titsworth. "We also get a chance to interact with highly accomplished professionals. Having the chance to talk with them about the future of the media industry is both exciting and productive. We both get ideas for how we want to move forward."

Students and the public are invited and encouraged to attend the following events:

  • Panel: Developing Professional Skills – Success After Graduation at Baker Center Ballroom B, 1:30 p.m. A group of professionals from the E.W. Scripps Company, Scripps Interactive and the Scripps Howard Foundation, joined by Scripps College faculty, will discuss professional skills and post-graduation success.

  • Scripps Student Expo, at Baker Center 242, 3 p.m. Scripps College of Communication students will showcase student organizations creative activity and other initiatives in the college.

  • Dean's Remarks, SIC Kickoff & Networking Reception, Baker Center 240, 4 p.m. Dean Scott Titsworth will offer closing remarks. Details about the 2nd annual Scripps Innovation Challenge, open to all students on campus, will be announced. A networking reception will follow.

Scripps Day began in September 2006 after the Scripps Howard Foundation announced a $15 million gift to the College of Communication at Ohio University in April of that year. The gift served to support a wide variety of College of Communication programs and initiatives involving diversity, technology, teaching fellowships, scholarships, internships, visiting professional residencies and more.

"Our relationship with the Scripps Howard Foundation dates back many decades. Every year when we get together for Scripps Day, we have a chance to celebrate that long-standing connection and to also chart a course for how the relationship will grow and evolve," said Titsworth. "The individuals from the Scripps Howard Foundation and the Scripps companies are our colleagues and friends."
