School of Visual Communication welcomes National Geographic artist Fernando Baptista Oct. 19

ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 17, 2017)—The Ohio University School of Visual Communication and the School of Art + Design welcome internationally-renowned National Geographic artist Fernando Baptista on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. in Schoonover 145.

Baptista is internationally famous for his hands-on approach to visual storytelling. He creates models from paper or clay and uses photos and/or video to bring them to life. Click here to see an example of his recent work, a stop motion video about the Vikings and shipbuilding.

He will be giving a presentation showcasing his recent work and his creative process. This event is free and open to the public.

Fernando has won more than 150 awards from SND editions (Society for News Design), SPD, ÑH, Best American Infographic and Malofiej, including the Peter Sullivan award, best known as “The Pulitzer” for infographics. In 2013, he was nominated for an Emmy® in the category of “New Approaches: Arts, Lifestyle, Culture” for his stop-animation work in “Walking with Giants”, and he got his second nomination for an Emmy® in 2016 in the same category for his work in “Trajan’s Amazing Column.”
