ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 5, 2014)—Ohio University’s School of Media Arts and Studies will be welcoming high school students from around the region this summer for the first High School Media Workshop. The workshop, which takes place July 9-12, introduces high school students to the latest techniques in audio, video, animation and social media.
Students spend a half-day focusing on each area and learning from Ohio University media arts and studies professors. They will also get hands on experience using the tools and equipment in the media labs.
“This workshop is a good way for students to get introduced to the Ohio University culture while still getting to see what they can learn from our faculty members,” said Karen Riggs, a professor in the School of Media Arts and Studies and director of the High School Media Workshop.
Workshop participants will have the chance to network with media students from throughout the state, get acquainted with MDIA faculty and experience the Ohio University campus.
The workshop is open to all high school students leaving grades 9-11 and costs $250,which also covers meals and lodging in an Ohio University residence hall. Scholarships are available for students from underrepresented groups.
