Dr. Andreas Ströhl to give lecture on philosopher, media theorist Vilém Flusser Nov. 14

ATHENS, Ohio (Nov. 13, 2017)—Please join Dr. Andreas Ströhl, director of the German Goethe Institutes in North America and the former director of the Munich Film Festival, as he lectures on philosopher and media theorist Vilém Flusser on Tues., Nov. 14 from 7:30-9 p.m. in Schoonover 380.

As a media scholar, he has written extensively on Vilém Flusser, including editing the first English-language anthology of Flusser’s work (University of Minnesota Press, 2002).

Vilém Flusser (1920 - 1991) was a Czech-born philosopher and media theorists whose works on photography, film, writing and aesthetics, at times controversial and provocative, have left a lasting mark in communication and media theory. Flusser’s communicology brings together a phenomenological study of the media with an advocacy of a post-historical humanism and internationalism. With more of his work being available in English, Flusser’s work has met with an increasing interest among scholars in the US.

This lecture is presented by the School of Media Arts & Studies and is free and open to the public.
