ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 9, 2017)—Before the Ohio University Homecoming Parade on Saturday, Oct. 7, Scripps College of Communication alumni and friends gathered with students, faculty and staff to celebrate the Bobcat spirit. The Pre-Parade Coffee Hour, which was held in the Schoonover Center lobby, featured fruit salad and donuts, and lots of Scripps freebies.

WOUB provided live stream coverage of the parade again this year, but new to their coverage was a 360-degree live stream, which can be accessed on mobile devices here. The 360-degree version was made possible through a partnership between WOUB and the School of Media Arts & Studies Immersive Media Initiative.

The college and both schools of journalism and communication studies had tables with information about what current students are doing. In the spirit of Homecoming, alumni also played a role in Saturday’s gathering, like Bettina Linke, BSJ ’95, who had traveled to Athens from Hawaii as part of a larger trip across the country.

Linke shared a story about seeing a man in an Ohio University shirt in Kona, Hawaii, and having no hesitation about approaching him.

“I’ve made lifelong friends in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism,” Linke said. “I have a tremendous fondness for this school. We’re all family here.”
