Types of Internship Credit

MDIA 3910 On-Campus Practicum

MDIA students may earn academic credit for their involvement with certain on campus extra-curricular activities. Practicum credit is available for various WOUB Public Media training programs, University Communication and Marketing, the All Campus Radio Network (ACRN), and other university divisions. Students earn one hour of credit for a minimum of 40 hours of work. The Internship Coordinator may also approve other experiences for credit, and in conjunction with the student's academic advisor can provide more specific information about the on-campus practicum.

MDIA 3911 Off-Campus Practicum

MDIA majors have the opportunity to gain professional experience with off-campus media organizations through the MDIA 3911 Practicum. Students earn one hour of credit for a minimum of 40 hours of work. The hours may be concentrated in one or two weeks, or may be spread over a longer period, such as over winter break. The Internship Coordinator may also approve other experiences for credit, and in conjunction with the student's academic advisor can provide more specific information about the off-campus practicum.

MDIA 4910 Internship

An internship is a one-time structured work experience in which a junior or senior works as a full-time staff member at a professional media organization. Internships typically last for 10-14 weeks (40 hours per week) and can be taken during fall, spring, or summer semester. Students can earn from two to 15 credit hours for such an experience.
