Ohio University

Music Production/Recording Industry

This area encourages students to explore major aspects of the modern and emerging music industry. Students can choose from two major tracts which include technical skills in audio recording and music production, artist development and songwriting, mixing and mastering, and music and audio recording technology, as well as the variety of entrepreneurial and creative careers related to the management and leadership roles inside the commercial music industry. The MPRI program culminates with an exciting joint-capstone course, Brick City Records, which allows all MPRI majors to operate and manage a student-run record label, integrating their production and business skills to sign new artists, record and produce new releases, and create marketing and promotional opportunities for artists. In addition, MPRI offers numerous experiential learning opportunities to expand professional growth and networking in these areas including the annual Ohio University Music Industry Summit and several place-based opportunities: OHIO SXSW Program, OHIO-in-LA Program, Music Industry Masterclass at Bonnaroo and Forecastle, The Nelsonville Music Festival Gladden House Sessions course, and MDIA Music Production Masterclasses with 7-time GRAMMY winner Michael Brauer in NYC and Jim Eno of Spoon at Public Hi-Fi in Austin,TX
