The McClure School's Master of Information and Telecommunication Systems (MITS) program specializes in preparing the professionals who design and maintain those networks, with a curriculum that combines technology, business, and communications classes with hands-on experience. Employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. These occupations are projected to add about 557,100 new jobs. Demand for these workers will stem from greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, and information security.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations was $84,580 in May 2017, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $37,690: $81,100 is the median annual pay (2017) for network and computer systems administrators/$88,270 is the median annual pay (2017) for computer systems analysts at the Bachelors degree level.
Increasing demand for high-tech communication systems in all sectors of the economy, combined with the impending retirement of the baby boom generation, means that there should be many jobs available in ITS.
The McClure School and Ohio University offer numerous resources to help our students find jobs. In fact, the McClure School has one of the highest placement rates of schools in the Scripps College of Communication.
