Ohio University will implement a phased reopening in the fall, with most Athens campus students beginning their fall classes remotely on August 24 and continuing remotely through September 27.

More than 100 high school students attended the workshop, which was held in a virtual format due to the coronavirus. The free two-day program included live Zoom sessions with faculty, professionals and current J-School students, pre-recorded videos and a virtual facilities tour.

The J-School professor received the Sigma Delta Chi (SDX) award in the Research About Journalism category presented by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) for research examining how well national newspapers followed best practices in reporting celebrity suicide deaths.

Kaitor Kay earned his master's degree from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. He won a Lower Great Lakes Regional Emmy award for a story he produced for WANE 15 News in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he is a reporter and anchor.

Sophomore Charlotte Caldwell was named a finalist in the Online Opinion and Commentary category in the Mark of Excellence awards sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).

Four new online graduate certificates are being launched, focused on crisis communication, media training and digital media project management. The certificates can be stacked toward the online master's degree in organizational communication. A crisis communication workshop, counting as a credit hour toward the certificate, will be held online on August 1, 2020.
