Euirang is originally from Busan, South Korea, and came to Athens in 2018 with her husband and 4-year-old daughter.
Her research interest is in the interdisciplinary areas of strategic communication, health communication, disaster communication, and visual communication. Particularly, she deals with examining the effects of health messages, including visuals and texts, on people’s emotions, attitudes, and behavioral intentions on digital media.
For her master’s thesis, she implemented an experiment to examine how message appeal and efficacy belief influenced college-aged populations’ perceptions of oral health messages. The health and disaster issues she is currently working on for her research include oral health problems, natural disasters, and pandemic diseases. After receiving her Ph.D., she aims to become a faculty member in the field of strategic communication or health communication in the U.S. or in another country.
She has worked as Health PR Manager for Narsha Hospital in South Korea from 2018 to present. She is responsible for developing online PR strategies, creating content for online media channels, such as hospital blogs, Facebook, and Kakaostory, and analyzing and reporting social media analytics. She also previously worked as an English instructor and marketing manager in educational settings in South Korea and the U.S. for about six years. While working and pursuing her degrees, she had many opportunities to meet people with diverse ethnic backgrounds, including people from Mexico, Spain, China, Ethiopia, and Sudan.
Before joining the doctoral program at Ohio University, she earned two master’s degrees, one in Journalism with a concentration in Strategic Communication from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and the other in Education with a concentration in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of Pennsylvania. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Korea University.
Euirang has also received multiple awards, including First Place Student Paper from the Division of Graduate Student Interest Group in 2020 AEJMC and Top Paper Abstract Award from the Division of Graduate Student Interest Group in 2019 AEJMC Midwinter.
