Elizabeth Shiller (M.A., University of Akron) from Youngstown, Ohio received a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Youngstown State University in 2015. She received a Master’s degree in Communication from the University of Akron in 2018. Her Master’s Thesis used cultivation theory to examine if viewing medical TV shows had any effect on doctor- patient communication. Part of the thesis also looked at whether these TV shows are accurate enough for people to learn medical procedures. Beth’s research interests include how film and stories relate to our everyday life. At Ohio University, Beth plans to continue her research in storytelling and fandom. Since graduating from the University of Akron, Beth has worked as a reporter for the Tribune Chronicle and Vindicator newspapers. She also worked as the Color Guard Caption Head for Ursuline High School for the past 10 years. Beth’s personal interests include creative writing, watching movies and TV, and traveling.
