Authorization Agreements

If an Ohio University researcher collaborating with another institution wishes for Ohio University to serve as the IRB of record for a study or wishes for Ohio University to rely on the IRB review of the other institution, an authorization agreement must be in place.  Authorization agreements must be signed by the Institutional Officials (IO) of both institutions.  The Ohio University researcher is responsible for obtaining the signature of the other institution's IO and providing it to the Office of Research Compliance by email, compliance@ohio.edu.  We will then coordinate obtaining the signature of the Ohio University IO.

Ohio University prefers to execute broad agreements that allow either institution to defer to the other.

Authorization Agreement – other review – This is a general agreement that allows Ohio University to accept the IRB review of another institution.

Authorization Agreement – OU review – This is a general agreement that allows another institution to accept the IRB review of Ohio University.

If the collaborating institution is not willing to enter into the broad agreements, an authorization agreement covering only the specific study can be pursued.

Authorization Agreement – other (project specific) – This is an agreement that allows Ohio University to accept the IRB review of another institution for a specific study.

Authorization Agreement- OU (project specific) – This is an agreement that allows another institution to accept the IRB review of Ohio University for a specific study.
