OURC, Baker awards offer more than $90,000 in funding to 11 faculty members

The John C. Baker Fund and the Ohio University Research Committee awarded $91,853 total to 11 faculty proposals for research, scholarship and creative work this fall.

Both internal awards programs now are accepting proposals for the spring cycle of funding in January and February.

Baker Fund

During the fall cycle of the Baker Fund awards, the university received 14 proposals requesting $155,885.

Endowed in 1961 by a gift of more than $612,000 from 1926 College of Arts and Sciences graduate Edwin L. Kennedy and his wife, Ruth, a 1930 graduate of the College of Education, The John C. Baker Fund was established to support faculty improvement and research efforts. Up to $12,000 is available for each award.

The Baker Fund committee selected five proposals and awarded $50,447 total.

Award:  $12,000

Ohio University Research Committee

The Ohio University Research Committee received 10 proposals requesting $73,303. This fund supports early-stage research, scholarship and creative projects by staff, new faculty or established faculty seeking new directions in their work. Up to $8,000 is available for each award.

The committee selected six proposals and awarded $41,406 total.

Spring proposals now accepted

The Ohio University Research Committee is accepting proposals for its spring cycle through 4 p.m.,  Jan. 30, and the Baker Fund is accepting proposals through 4 p.m., Feb. 13.
