Dustin Grooms to be featured on WATH 970 talk show Aug. 15

Dustin Grooms, an assistant professor of athletic training in the Ohio University College of Health Sciences and Professions, will be the featured guest on the Party Line talk show with Dave Palmer on WATH radio from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wed., Aug. 15. Listeners can tune in to 970 AM/97.1 FM or listen via http://970wath.com/music/ and can call in to ask questions at 740-592-6646.

Grooms’ research interests include the study of neuroplasticity, or how the brain and nervous system change after orthopedic or musculoskeletal injuries such as knee ligament (ACL) ruptures, osteoarthritis or ankle sprains. He also examines how clinicians can use new therapies to treat such injuries. In addition, Grooms studies sports or military-related concussions, including how to manage and prevent them and potentially avoid long-term consequences such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).  He has been a member of the Ohio University faculty since 2015.

Grooms will discuss a number of subjects related to his research:

  • How does the brain change after orthopedic injury?

  • What are some of the new therapies we are developing?

  • How do we capture evidence of changes in the brain?

  • What are new technologies related to the potential prevention of concussions?

  • What are new technologies related to the management of concussions?

  • How do we prevent the development of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)?
