Innovation Center opens new biotechnology facility

June 22, 2011

The Ohio University Innovation Center invites the university community to the grand opening of its new Biotechnology Research and Development Facility, to be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29.

The new facility offers state-of-the-art instrumentation and research equipment for chemical and biomedical analysis. The facility is available for use by Ohio University faculty, staff and students, Innovation Center clients, researchers at area colleges and universities and private industry.

The Innovation Center received funding from the university and the state of Ohio’s Edison Incubator program to establish the facility, designed to support the growing community of biotechnology researchers at Ohio University and in the southeastern Ohio region.

The Innovation Center currently is home to two biotechnology companies, Interthyr and MetalloPharm, and has one affiliate member, Promiliad Biopharma. Diagnostic Hybrids (now a Quidel Company) is a graduate of the program.

The grand opening event will feature tours at 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and remarks at 3:15 p.m. by Rathindra Bose, Ohio University vice president for research and dean of the Graduate College, and Shadi Moghaddas, laboratory director. Refreshments will be served.

The Innovation Center is located at 340 W. State St., Athens. For more information about the Biotechnology Research and Development Facility, visit Contact the Innovation Center at 740.593.1818 or
