Perspectives magazine wins national CASE award

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has awarded a gold medal to Ohio University’s Perspectives magazine in the national Circle of Excellence awards program. The magazine highlights the university’s research, scholarship and creative activity for a diverse audience of readers.
The magazine won a gold medal in the category of Special Constituency Magazines, which features research magazines, academic college magazines and publications that cover professional or graduate schools. The only other university to win a gold medal in the category this year was Harvard University for its publication Harvard Medicine.
CASE received 54 entries in the category. Tufts University received a silver medal, and University of Michigan and University of Johannesburg received bronze medals for their work.The Circle of Excellence awards program is the premier national competition for university communications, alumni relations and advancement initiatives.
“The CASE gold medal is testimony to the exciting nature of Ohio University's endeavors to advance the frontiers of knowledge and culture, and the outstanding leadership by Andrea Gibson in using Perspectives to communicate those stories,” said Joseph Shields, the vice president for research and creative activity and dean of the Graduate College.
Ohio University’s Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity has published Perspectives magazine biannually since 1997. The publication has won numerous regional and national awards for writing, design and overall excellence.
The magazine is edited by Andrea Gibson, director of research communications and special assistant to the vice president/dean, and designed by Ohio University alumna Tina Ullman of Ullman Designs in Marietta, Ohio. Contributors include Ohio University alumni and students.
Both Perspectives magazine and Harvard Medicine are members of the University Research Magazine Association. Gibson serves as president of the national organization.
