Tessa Corio's My Why Story
Tessa Corio - Exercise Physiology Major
"Working out at Ping has cleared my mind and challenged my physical strength."
Hi! I am Tessa Corio-an Exercise Physiology major graduating this spring and a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at the Ping Recreation Center.
To me, well-being is the state of feeling like you are mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually fulfilled and balanced. When I feel my best, I am a better friend, a better partner, and a better person in general. I love the saying "you can't pour from an empty cup." I take self-care, fitness, nutrition, mental health, and my hobbies all very seriously. I make time every day to focus on bettering myself. An achievement I have accomplished with my well-being is the ability to recognize my anxiety triggers and better cope with my anxiety. I feel as though I am surer of myself and better able to connect with others.
From the day I got to Ohio University, I knew that the gym at the Ping Recreation Center would be my safe space for the next four years. I have been able to find purpose through my fitness journey and have gained more confidence with every small goal that I set for myself and eventually accomplish. I not only use the gym to workout in and use it to dedicate time to myself and be present in the moment, but I have also been able to work there as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor and share my passion with my clients and class participants. I love that I can motivate others in the same place where I motivate myself to crush my own workouts.
With every high and low that I have had the past four years, the gym has been the space where I can decompress, forget about the stress I am facing, and ground myself. I can confidently say that working out at Ping has cleared my mind, challenged my physical strength, and given me the chance to show up for myself and work on myself.
