The Ohio University Bird Ice Arena is an indoor ice facility featuring an illuminated 190' by 85' ice surface. Activities at Bird include recreational skating, Learn To Play Hockey, Learn To Skate, Athens Youth Hockey Association, academic classes, recreational hockey, figure skating, birthday parties and private rentals. The facility is open from late September to March and is available to OHIO students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. Bird Ice Arena is home ice for the four-time ACHA national champions, the ACHA D-1 Ohio University Men's Ice Hockey team. 

 

BIRD ARENA IS CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. WE WILL REOPEN FOR THE FALL 2017 SEMESTER.

Fall 2017 Operational Hours:

REC SKATE HOURS (start date will be annouced in late August):

Tuesday & Thursday: 10:15 - 11:30 p.m.

Saturday: 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.

Sunday: 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.

 

FREESTYLE SKATE* (start date will be annouced in late August):

Freestyle Ice Time is for private one-on-one lessons though it is open to the public, it is intended for the use of coaching students who have finished Learn To Skate training program. It is more regimented and expensive than the public/recreational skates we offer.  Freestyle sessions allow skates extra practice time to fine-tune their skills. Skaters can work independently on various skills or receive a private lesson. 

Tuesday & Thursday: 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Friday : 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Adult Only Freestyle (Ages 16+):

Friday: 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.

 

BIRD ARENA HOCKEY LEAGUE (start date will be annouced in late August) :

Monday & Wednesday: 10:30 - 11:30 p.m.
