November 04, 2014 : Bobcat Bash Volleyball Tourney Turns Up the Heat
More than 200 people braved the near-freezing temperatures for Saturday’s 22nd Annual Bobcat Bash volleyball tournament at the Proctorville Center.  With the sun shining for most of the event, volleyball enthusiasts, players and sideline cheerleaders didn’t let a taste of winter keep them from having a good time.
“Year after year, we attract students, staff and faculty to the Center for this occasion.  It’s a great time for the community; entire families come and the kids really enjoy the inflatables and games,” said Center Director Stephanie Burcham. In between the spikes, low dives and wipeouts, teams of ten joined the ranks ready to take their place on the field of volleyball dreams.  This is the stuff that champions are made of…Bobcat style!
With their game faces on and a hint of bragging rights to come, players were in it to win it. But, there were no losers on this day. A tasty BBQ picnic under the tent helped fuel the competition, and the hot chocolate alone was enough to warm the soul.  The thrill of victory belongs to Team Beavis and the Bumpheads, led by captain Blaine Fuller. Second place honors went to Team One Hit Wonders, whose captain was Quinton Harris.  Third-place standings belong to Team The Untouchables, led by Charles Sanders.

Thanks to everyone who came out to have a great time on Saturday.  Special thanks to the students and other volunteers who helped with setup, cleanup and door prizes. Let’s turn up the heat again next year and double the number of teams.  We have a full year to prepare for the competition.
