Jennifer KirkseyJennifer Kirksey joined the Office of the President in August 2005 as the Strategic Communication Advisor and Developer. In her current role as Chief of Staff, Jennifer is charged with managing the Office of the President, serving as a liaison to students, faculty, staff, and other members of our community, and working with our university community to move our strategic initiatives forward.
Chief of Staff
Since joining Ohio University in 2000, Jennifer has worked as a media specialist in University Communications and Marketing. In this role, she handled media relations, managed projects, and created and implemented strategic communication and marketing plans. Her experience also includes an extensive background in written communications. Prior to her work at Ohio University, Jennifer was with a financial communications firm in New York, N.Y., where she focused on national media relations. She holds a bachelor of science in journalism, and a master of arts in Organizational Communication, both from Ohio University.
Director of Presidential Communications
Amber Epling joined the Office of the President in January 2016 during an historic time of presidential transition for her alma mater. She has served three Ohio University presidents: President Emeritus Roderick J. McDavis, Interim President David Descutner and current President M. Duane Nellis; she also assisted with strategic communications related to the 2016-2017 presidential search process. As Director of Presidential Communications, Amber advises the President on communication opportunities that advance his presidential priorities and the University’s central mission. Amber also collaborates with senior leadership and the network of Ohio University’s Campus Communicators to strategically identify communication engagement opportunities for the President.
Prior to this position, Amber coordinated communications for the West Virginia Secretary of State. In that role, she served as the Office’s spokesperson. Prior to that position, she worked for the West Virginia Legislature and spent several years as a television news reporter/anchor at stations in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Roanoke, Virginia. She holds a Master of Arts degree in political science from Marshall University and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism degree from Ohio University. She is a proud native of Southeastern Ohio; she and her husband, Tim, are thrilled to return to this region to raise their three daughters.
Kelli TackettKelli Tackett began her role as Presidential Assistant in September 2011. In her role, she serves as the executive staff assistant to the President of Ohio University. She is responsible for managing President Nellis' calendar, travel, and correspondence.
Prior to joining the Office of the President, she served as Administrative Secretary in the Athletics Compliance Office; Administrative Assistant, Student Financial Assistance Office; Admissions Counselor, Admissions Office; and, most recently, Associate Director of Admissions at Marshall University. Kelli earned a Bachelor of Art in secondary education and Master of Science in adult and technical education at Marshall University.
Assistant to the Office of the President and First Lady
Tami Erwin joined the Office of the President in 2012. Since 2015, she has served as Assistant to the Office of the President and First Lady. Her responsibities include managing First Lady Ruthie Nellis' calendar, supporting the Office of the President, assisting with the coordination of events, and supporting the President and First Lady as they advocate and serve as ambassadors for Ohio University's students, faculty, and staff.
Prior to her appointment in the Office of the President, she worke as an Administrative Assistant with the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Southeast Ohio CORE. Most recently, she served as Administrative Assistant in the Heritage College's Office of Admissionts.
John T. Rogers
Associate Director for Presidential Events
John T. Rogers joined the Office of the President in August 2017 as the Associate Director for Presidential Events. In this role, John is charged with the planning and execution of events hosted by the president and first lady, as well as assisting with implementation of communications and messaging strategies for the office. Additionally, John will oversee the Presidential Leadership Society, a high-functioning group of student volunteers who engage with alumni, donors, and community members at presidential and university events.
Prior to joining Ohio University, John managed presidential events at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., and communications and media relations at Johnson & Wales University in Denver. He holds a bachelor of science in Marketing from Johnson & Wales, and a master of science in Project Management and Organization Leadership from Regis University.
