Presidential Graduate Student Medals

 

Presidential Medal for Outstanding Research or Creative Excellence Demonstrated by a Doctoral Student

The purpose of this award is to recognize a doctoral student who has demonstrated academic excellence in research or creative activity, as it relates to their field of study. This may include, but is not limited to, a project, publication, or body of work.

Award Amount
$1000 (one-time)

Frequency
Once annually

Criteria
Each applicant:

  • Must be a currently enrolled doctoral student at Ohio Unviersity at time of application
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must have shown strong potential to conduct high-level, original work and make contributions to the scholarly literature in their field
  • Must provide two letters of recommendation where the reference addresses the quality of the student’s work. One must come from a current Ohio University faculty member (limit to 2 pages per reference)

Nomination
A complete nomination will include a statement by the applicant highlighting her/his accomplishments and activities as related to the award purpose (maximum 1,000 words).

Presidential Medal for Scholarly or Creative Excellence Demonstrated by a Master’s Student

The purpose of this award is to recognize a master’s student whose research or creative activity directly contributes to the educational, economic, physical, social, or cultural well-being of a given community, locally or around the globe (special consideration given to those with research focused in Appalachia).

Award Amount
$1000 (one-time)

Criteria
Each applicant:

  • Must be a currently enrolled master’s student at Ohio University at the time of application
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • A statement by the applicant highlighting her/his accomplishments and activities as related to the award purpose (maximum 750 words)
  • Must provide two letters of recommendation where the reference addresses the quality of the student’s work. One must come from a current Ohio University faculty member (limit to 2 pages per reference)
