Chief of Staff and Special Assistant to the President
Jennifer Kirksey joined the Office of the President in August 2005 as the Strategic Communication Advisor and Developer. In her current role as Chief of Staff, Jennifer is charged with managing the Office of the President, serving as a liaison to students, faculty, staff, and other members of our community, and working with our university community to move our strategic initiatives forward.
Since joining Ohio University in 2000, Jennifer has worked as a media specialist in University Communications and Marketing. In this role, she handled media relations, managed projects, and created and implemented strategic communication and marketing plans. Her experience also includes an extensive background in written communications. Prior to her work at Ohio University, Jennifer was with a financial communications firm in New York, N.Y., where she focused on national media relations. She holds a bachelor of science in journalism, and a master of arts in Organizational Communication, both from Ohio University.
Director of Presidential Communications
Amber Epling joined the Office of the President in January 2016. As Director of Presidential Communications, she is charged with developing and managing major communications for the President. Prior to this position, Amber coordinated communications for the West Virginia Secretary of State. In that role, she served as the Office’s spokesperson and first point of contact for the media in addition to planning press conferences and outreach events, managing social media accounts and creating written materials for both the Secretary and the media. Previously, she worked for the West Virginia Legislature and spent several years as a television news reporter/anchor in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Roanoke, Virginia. She holds a Master of Arts in Political Science from Marshall University and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Ohio University.
Kelli Tackett began her role as Presidential Assistant in September 2011. In her role, she serves as the executive staff assistant to the President of Ohio University. She is responsible for managing President McDavis' calendar, travel, and correspondence. Prior to joining the Office of the President, she served as Administrative Secretary in the Athletics Compliance Office; Administrative Assistant, Student Financial Assistance Office; Admissions Counselor, Admissions Office; and, most recently, Associate Director of Admissions at Marshall University. Kelli earned a Bachelor of Art in secondary education and Master of Science in adult and technical education at Marshall University.
Presidential Residence and Events Assistant
Tami Erwin joined the Office of the President in 2012. As Presidential Residence and Event Assistant, her responsibilities include managing First Lady Deborah McDavis' calendar, serving as the primary contact for the Presidential Residence, and coordinating events at the Residence. Prior to her appointment in the Office of the President, she worked as an administrative assistant with the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Southeast Ohio CORE. Most recently, she served as administrative assistant in the Heritage College's Office of Admissions.
Assistant to the Office of the President & Presidential Communications Specialist
Sarah Boumphrey joined the office as Assistant to the Office of the President in March of 2014. In her role, she supports the office of the President, overseeing the daily operations of the office, coordinating events, and assisting the Director of Presidential Communications.
Previously in her career, Sarah worked in adventure and outdoor recreation in Northern Ontario, and later in biomedical sciences and virology. She is also currently a Court-Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian Ad-Litem (CASA/GAL) for the Athens County Juvenile Courts. Sarah is a graduate of Ohio University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in journalism and a Bachelor of Art in political science. She is also working towards a Bachelor of Science in microbiology, with a focus on vector-borne disease.
Assistant to the Secretary of Board of Trustees & Office of the President
Shawnee Meek joined the Office of the President in June 2014. Shawnee is charged with supporting the Board of Trustees and Office of the President. Shawnee is also the founder of Kids Helping Kids, a community initiative that inspires busy children and their parents to engage in philanthropic projects while promoting positive values. Shawnee holds a master of art in human resources management from Webster University and a bachelor of science in organizational communication from Kennesaw State University.
Shawnee has worked as an administrative associate in the Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility. Prior to her work at Ohio University, Shawnee held various roles in human resources and administrative support roles on the Marine Corps base in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
