Meet Mrs. Nellis
A native of Pennsylvania, Ruthie Nellis’ distinguished career has centered on a various leadership positions at the university and national level. In the university setting, her work has focused on library and information management, and related dimensions. At West Virginia University (WVU), she served as the project manager helping to oversee construction and development of a new university library. She was also director of the WVU Health Sciences Library during a portion of her time in Morgantown.
At Kansas State University, she worked on the university’s national commercialization initiative as director of Knowledge Resources. As first lady of both the University of Idaho and Texas Tech University, she provided an important support role for her husband in his presidential duties, was active in university and community projects, and helped lead efforts to support disabled veteran students, Friends of Music, and other related activities.
At the national level, Ruthie is immediate past chairwoman of the Council of Presidents’ and Chancellors’ Spouses/Partners and served on the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU) Board of Directors. Nellis graduated from Montana State University, and completed her graduate work at Emporia State University (Kansas). She met and married Duane while attending Montana State University. She and Dr. Nellis have two sons, Jonathan and Jason.
