To provide a uniform policy for flexibility in scheduling work hours for employees during the University's summer session and winter break. This policy applies to the Athens campus and shall be implemented as service responsibility permits. It applies to both classified and administrative employees. Regional campus deans have the option of implementing summer and winter break hours scheduling at their sites.


Recognizing that the normal academic year operating hours for university offices is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the University shall begin summer hour operations on the Monday following the end of Spring Quarter and cease summer hours the Friday before the start of Fall Quarter.

Winter Break hours will begin on the Monday following the Thanksgiving holidays and end on Friday prior to the start of Winter Quarter.

Summer and Winter Break hours shall be defined as 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a one-half hour lunch. The officially recognized lunch period will be 12 noon to 12:30 p.m. Planning Unit Heads may choose to stagger individual staff schedules.


Departments that currently schedule hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year are not affected by this policy, but may choose to follow this policy as long there is no disruption in the service provided.

If questions or concerns arise from the implementation of this policy, or if departments desire to operate under an exception, then the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources must be contacted for advice and counsel.
