Moms Weekend

Historically, one of the most popular weekends of the year is Moms Weekend. All Ohio University moms are invited to join us in Athens for a very special time.

Ohio University is committed to ensuring its programs, services, and activities are accessible to students, faculty, staff and the general public with disabilities, who visit or attend a campus-sponsored event. If you have an accommodation need, question or concern related to participating in any of our Parents Weekend activities please contact Jade Hunt at jh335010@ohio.edu by march 30 at 3:00pm.

Ticket Pick Up:

All ticket orders that were placed via the Parent and Family website, including the 16th Annual Moms Walk, Athena Cinema’s Princess Bride, or Chicago City Limits Comedy Show, will be available at the event location when you arrive. 

 

If you are looking to purchase additional tickets for any of the events throughout the weekend, you will need to visit each respective ticket location to purchase those separately the day of the event (if tickets are still available).

Parking Information For The Weekend:

All university lots on campus will open at 3 PM on Friday, April 1, 2016 to those without permits with the exception of red lots, blue lots, and student garages. These lots will remain open through the end of the day on Sunday, April 3, 2016. All vehicles must be parked within a regular non-metered, non-restricted space within the lot.

Parking in the grass or an otherwise non-parking area is prohibited at all times and could result in a fine as well as possible immobilization/towing fees. All fees must be paid when parking at a meter on campus.

On Campus Accommodations:

For those who have reserved a space on campus, housing will be available in Fenzel House located at 122 South Green Drive (building #122 located in grid J6 on the campus map: https://www.ohio.edu/athens/campus.pdf). All rooms have maximum capacities that must be observed.

 

Check-in will take place from 9:00am-7:00pm on Friday, April 1, 2016 in the Living Learning Center main entrance.  Parents/guests and or students are welcome to stop by to pick up keys and check-in information with proper ID.  Check-in at Fenzel House will be available and staff will be on-call as needed after 8:00pm.  Guests may call 740-590-6171 for assistance.

 

Check-out will take place on Sunday, April 3rd.  You will be provided with an envelope upon arrival.  Please place all keys in the envelope and leave on the desk in your room.  Simply pull the door to close behind you.  You will need to checkout prior to 11:00am to allow our staff time to collect keys and perform room inspections.

 

Bed linens, a pillow, a blanket, and a towel set will be provided for each guest.  Each room contains twin sized bed(s), a desk, a chair, closet, dresser, and a microwave/refrigerator unit.  If you have further questions regarding your accommodations, please refer to previous emails sent by our Department of Housing and Residence Life or contact Nikki Ohms at ohms@ohio.edu

 

Connecting to Campus Wi-Fi:

When arriving on campus you should notice different Wi-Fi networks available on all of your mobile devices. In order to connect, simply select the network titled “OHIO University Guest.” This network should appear as unprotected and once connected, you will be prompted to open your browser to log in. When your browser is open, below the “Authentication Required” box, you should see a link that reads “Request and account or redeem a guest code.” This link will take you to a separate login screen for campus guests that allow you to enter a voucher code for Internet access. The voucher code for all Parent & Family Events is OHIOFAMILIES.

Not Your Mother’s Comedy Show, presented by Blue Pencil Comedy

8:00pm – 10:00pm, The Theater, Baker University Center 

A variety show filled with comedy by female students here at Ohio University. Proceeds go to benefit My Sister’s Place, a woman’s shelter.

OVST¹s Moms Weekend 2016: Broadway Open Mic

Always wanted to let loose and belt out some Broadway show tunes? Here is your chance!

Join Ohio Valley Summer Theater for "Broadway Open Mic" during Moms Weekend on Friday, April 1 from 6-8pm!  Bring your moms to the Broadway stage for a night and let them be the star! Choose your favorite show tunes on the Karaoke machine, pick a prop if you like, take center stage, and let those vocal cords rip.  OVST, a non-profit university/community theater organization, is teaming with Athens Uncorked, http://www.athensuncorked.com/,  Athens' only wine bar, to host this evening of Broadway fun! One Voice, presented by Sigma Alpha Iota

One Voice – a charity event hosting musical groups and musicians from all across campus. All proceeds are donated to My Sister’s Place – A woman’s shelter.

Ohio Hockey Skills Competition

6:30pm, Bird Arena 

The 2015-16 Ohio Hockey Team will be displaying their talents with a skills competition including fastest skater, hardest shot, breakaway competition, puckhandling relay, and a 3 on 3 mini tournament. All proceeds will be donated to Kokua TRY-Sport, a 100% non-profit organization that provides underprivileged youth the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports over a two week period. This organization is branching out into Athens, OH for the first time this year!

16th Annual Mom's Walk for a Cure

9:00am Registration and Shirt Pick-up, 10:00am Walk Begins, Ping Center 

Join the Ohio University Program Council's 16th Annual Mom's Walk for a Cure, benefitting Susan G. Komen Columbus, Saturday April 2nd, 2016. Registration, T Shirt pickup, and Pre-Walk events begin at 9am and the walk will start at 10am at Ping Center. T-shirt sizes, first come, first serve. Speakers and performances are to be announced! The walk will take place following the speaker and loop around campus and the bike path. We will also have a silent auction with great prizes! Come join us in raising awareness for breast cancer!

Registration is $15 and includes a t-shirt.

Chicago City Limits: NYC’s Legendary Improv Comedy Show

8:00pm, Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium 

Chicago City Limits is New York City's legendary Improv comedy show. Founded in Chicago in 1977 by actors participating in the Second City workshops, the group relocated to New York in 1980 and began an Off-Broadway run of over 8,500 performances. Through the years, the company has gotten rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, most recently receiving the 2008 Award for Best Comedy Group by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC). 

NOTE: This performance may contain content that is offensive and may be inappropriate for younger audience members.

Mom's Weekend Fashion Show

A fashion show hosted by Ohio University's Fashion Associates. Raffle starts at 12pm and Runway starts at 1pm. There will be free snacks and tons of awesome raffle prizes!

Mom’s Bowl 2016, presented by OU Friends of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Athens

10:00am -3:00pm, Roller Bowl Lanes, Athens  

Bowl to support after-school and community mentoring programs for over 300 at-risk children in our community. Research confirms that children who are matched with supportive mentors through Big Brothers Big Sisters are 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs and 52% less likely to skip school. Please join us for our Mom’s Bowl event and help us make a difference to local children in need.

Tickets are available for a tax deductible donation of $25 per person ($20 per person for groups of 4 or more) and include: 1 game of bowling, free shoe rentals, free food, free Pepsi products and door prizes. Tickets are available at the door. However, because the lanes may fill up quickly, attendees are encouraged to rsvp via email.

Moms Weekend Old Man’s Cave Hike

Date: April 2 & 3 Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Old Man’s Cave region of Hocking Hills State Park 

Join Outdoor Pursuits on a day hike through the Old Man’s Cave region of Hocking Hills State Park. This area is scattered with a variety of geologic features including waterfalls, sandstone cliffs, and rock formations. A great way to spend the day with your family and friends!

If a family member needs to get a message to a visiting parent and is uncertain how to contact him or her, they should contact the Ohio University Police Department at 740-593-1911 or e-mail police@ohio.edu.
