Weather moves celebration to Convocation Center

ATHENS, Ohio (June 4, 2004) -- Due to the possibility of rain, the Athens area community celebration of Ohio University's Bicentennial scheduled for tonight has been moved from the grounds of The Ridges to the Ohio University Convocation Center. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m.

Most previously announced program elements will take place as scheduled. Only the open houses of the Kennedy Museum of Art, the Dairy Barn Cultural Arts Center and Ohio University Facilities Planning have been cancelled. Understandably, the encore pyrotechnics have also been cancelled.

Throughout the evening, guests may enjoy the spirited sounds of The Royal Colony Band with the Barely Makin' It singers and the ever-popular Local Girls. The Sammy Kaye Orchestra directed by Roger Thorpe will take center stage at 7:45 p.m.

Dress is casual for this full evening of music and dancing. All activities and refreshments are free and open to the public.
