The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) invites all graduate students to apply for two new funding opportunities: The Graduate Student Senate Grant for Original Work and the Graduate Student Senate Travel Grant. The establishment of these innovative resources underscores the commitment of the GSS to advance and improve graduate student education.
Both grants were created for students by their peers and come on the heels of an online survey completed in the winter of 2003 in which these particular needs were identified by colleagues across the university.
The Graduate Student Senate Grant for Original Work supports research and creative activities of Ohio University graduate students, by covering direct costs (e.g., supplies, materials, travel to conduct research) for both current and on-going projects. Award decisions are made by the GSS review committee consisting of certified reviewers.
Ten grants of $500 will be awarded each quarter. The deadline for submissions for fall quarter is Sept. 29 by 4 p.m. in the GSS office, 327 Scott Quad.
The Graduate Student Senate Travel Grant supports graduate education through participation in international, national, regional, or local seminars and conferences to present finished portions of research. Travel grants are limited to up to $300 per student per national, international, regional or local conference. Funding will be determined by a modified lottery held within two weeks of the submission deadline. The fall quarter deadline for submissions to the travel grant is Sept. 26 by 4 p.m. in the GSS office, 327 Scott Quad.
Both GSS Grants will be offered ONCE during the fall, winter and spring quarters.
