Road and lane closings begin April 12

Roundabout construction phase 1 to impact traffic
Apr 9, 2010
From staff reports

Phase 1 of the City of Athens' improvement plan for the Richland Avenue Bridge and the installation of a roundabout will begin Monday and is slated for completion on June 11.

The construction will take place on the bridge and at the intersection of SR 682 and Richland Avenue. The first phase will include constructing state Route 682 west of Richland, removing and replacing one half of the bridge's deck, constructing the north half of state Route 682 east of Richland, and constructing a portion of the east side of Richland Avenue south of state Route 682.

Starting Monday there will be intermittent closures for all lanes, lasting a few minutes each. However, state Route 682 west of Richland Avenue will remain closed to traffic.

During the closure the city will be detouring local traffic onto West Union Street and South Shafer Street. Vehicles traveling on state Route 682 will be detoured to U.S. 33 and 50 and state Routes 681, 356 and 56.

Though traffic will be maintained on Richland Avenue and state Route 682, east of the intersection, the City of Athens encourages drivers to expect delays and to plan their commutes accordingly.
