On Friday, Feb. 19 Ohio University celebrated its 206 years of history during Founders Day. The all-day event took place in the Baker University Center and kicked off with a convocation that showcased the university?s generations of excellence.

President Roderick J. McDavis, in his Founders Day Address, described the state of Ohio University as strong and gave credit for this to the entire university community.

History was a running theme in the event, hosted by Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit. Musical performances by the Rattletrap String Band and Title IX recalled the heritage of the southeast Ohio region and of the university.

The convocation was followed by two receptions and a musical performance by the Rattletrap String Band. Ensembles from the School of Music performed throughout Baker University Center during the afternoon.

The community celebration also included the opening of the Presidential Portrait Gallery, featuring portraits of 18 of the past 19 Ohio University presidents. That evening, the university celebrated its history of academic success with the unveiling of Distinguished Professor Peter Jung?s portrait, followed by the Distinguished Professor Lecture.
