On Thursday President Roderick J. McDavis announced that the Ohio University College of Education had received a $28 million gift from Violet Patton. In honor of Patton's tremendous commitment to her alma mater, the college will be renamed the Gladys W. and Davis H Patton College.

On Jan. 11 the university announced Patton's gift of $13.3 million to establish and fund the Violet L. Patton Center for Arts Education. Including this gift, her contributions to Ohio University in 2010 will total more than $41 million.

Speaking on Patton's behalf, her attorney, Jack Charney, sat down to discuss her dedication to education, memories from Ohio University and legacy.
