The Ohio University community is mourning the loss of Daniel Gabel, a student who died Tuesday in his hometown of Tipp City, Ohio.
Gabel, 22, was an English major who completed his undergraduate coursework at the end of fall quarter.
"We are deeply saddened by this loss," said Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi. "Our thoughts go out to Daniel?s family and friends."
"It is an enormous loss to our department. He was a very promising, intelligent, dedicated young man," said Professor of English and Director of Undergraduate Studies Linda Zionkowski, also Gabel's academic adviser. "He was not just competent in his work. He aimed to do his best and he succeeded."
Visitation hours are Sunday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. Both will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, 11 West Main St., Tipp City, Ohio.
Students are reminded that they can call Counseling and Psychological Services 24 hours a day/seven days a week at 740-593-1616 to speak with a counselor. Walk-in hours are available at the center in Hudson Hall from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
