From staff reports

The Ohio University community is mourning the loss of Alex Bibler, a student who died on Friday, Dec. 18 in his hometown of Cincinnati.

Bibler, 21, was a senior mathematics major in the College of Arts and Sciences.

"On behalf of Ohio University, we express our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time," said Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi.

Lori Holtmann, assistant director of the Academic Advancement Center and coordinator of supplemental instruction, recalled Bibler's enthusiasm for helping students understand calculus in his role as a supplemental instruction leader.

"Working with Alex was a highlight for me and my staff," she said. "He was an exceptional SI leader and we had the privilege of watching him really excel in the role."

Visitation hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Both will take place at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 10345 Montgomery Rd., Montgomery, Ohio.

Students are reminded that they can call Counseling and Psychological Services 24 hours a day/seven days a week at 740-593-1616 to speak with a counselor.
