Hundreds of online professional development courses are made available to OHIO employees through Lifelong and Distance Learning, in partnership with ed2go. These popular hands-on courses teach skills that can be used immediately, in areas such as Microsoft and Adobe software applications, Web page design, Web and computer programming, certification prep, basic accounting, business skills and grant writing.
The courses are ideal for those who need additional job training or who just want to learn something new. Each course runs six weeks and earns 2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which are not transferable to college credit.
While these classes are not covered by OHIO's employee educational benefit policy, university employees receive a 20 percent discount off the normal rate of $99, meaning each course is just $79 for employees. The price includes materials in most courses. And the cost may be tax deductible using the Lifetime Learning tax credit (always check with a tax preparer for details).
Course instructors work in the field they teach so they are knowledgeable in their area of expertise. Well-crafted lessons and interaction with fellow students is combined with flexibility for students to study at their own pace in a 24/7 online classroom.
New sessions start each month on the second or third Wednesday of the month. Upcoming sessions will start on Oct. 21, Nov. 11, Dec. 9 and Jan. 20. A full course catalog is available at www.ed2go.com/ohio.
Ohio University students are also eligible for the $79 rate for ed2go courses, but the cost is not part of the comprehensive fee. Student favorites include graduate test prep courses.
The ed2go course catalog is available to community members at the regular rate of $99 per course. Community members can access the catalog at www.ed2go.com/ohiou.
