ATHENS, Ohio (Sept. 1, 2006) -- Ohio University is kicking off the 2006-07 school year by offering students the chance to participate in the Bobcat Passport program and win incredible prizes, like iPods and book stipends, and the grand prize: one quarter of in-state tuition.
The program, which debuted last year, helps students explore campus life by having participants attend at least one approved event in each of six categories: Athletics, campus recreation, diversity, late night, lecture and performing arts. Having their passports stamped at those events indicates their attendance.
"We had thousands of students participate last year and we are taking what we learned from that first year and using it to make the Bobcat Passport an even better vehicle for promoting student involvement," Assistant Director for Campus Programs Chad Barnhardt said.
A noteworthy change is that the program will run only through fall quarter to enhance the momentum of the Bobcat Passport. Also, communication with students will be improved by displaying banners at the college gate and by running weekly ads in The Post.
"The Bobcat Passport program complements the academic program by encouraging students to meet new people and expand their experience by trying something new," Barnhardt said. "With at least one free event in each category, the program is easy for any student to take part in."
The Bobcat Passport is open to all Ohio University students who wish to participate, both undergraduate and graduate.
Students can pick up a Bobcat Passport at the Campus Life office, the information desk in Baker University Center and at most Bobcat Passport approved events. Prizes will be awarded to students who turn in their completed passports to the Campus Life office by Monday, Nov. 6 at 5:00 p.m. The drawings for prizes will take place before the end of the quarter. The complete list of prizes and events can be found at www.ohio.edu/bobcatpassport/.
