Students at Ohio University's Eastern Campus have formed a new Education Club to help serve the children in local communities and to provide a support network for one another through their college careers.
The Education Club has participated in two local events celebrating children and is looking for other ways to become involved with the local communities. "We are new and still trying to find things," said Casey Suto. The club so far has set up a booth at the Ohio Valley Mall Kids Fest 2007 where they had a sand box, limbo, and made jelly fish. They also provided children's activities at the Week of the Young Child event at Orchard Park Child Care Center in Wheeling.
The founding members, all early childhood education majors who will be seniors the end of this school year, are: Casey Suto from Bridgeport, Kim Nowakowski from Bridgeport, Traci Gardner from Port Washington, Kimberly Smith from Rayland, Lori Trikones from Wellsburg, Allison Hood from Martins Ferry, and Danica Mallett from Mt. Pleasant. Their adviser is Paula McMurray-Schwarz, associate professor of early childhood education.
