ATHENS, Ohio (Jan. 8, 2007) -- Provost Kathy Krendl announced today the appointment of Beatrice Selotlegeng as interim director of the Ohio University Women's Center. Selotlegeng will serve in this capacity until the end of June 2007, when it is anticipated that a permanent director will be named. A search for the director is currently under way.
"We are fortunate to have someone like professor Selotlegeng to launch the Women's Center. She will be an effective leader, a strong advocate and an inspiring role model for women students, faculty and staff," Krendl said.
Selotlegeng, who is an executive in residence with the College of Business, began in her new capacity on Jan. 1, and says she is excited about the opportunity.
"The establishment of the Women's Center is truly a new dawn in the history of our university and I am honored and privileged to be part of its evolving history," Selotlegeng said.
Prior to coming to Ohio University, Selotlegeng worked to promote women's issues in her native country of Botswana. Her previous positions include president of the Botswana Business and Professional Women's Association and board member of several groups related to women's issues, including the Women's Finance House, an affiliate of the Women's World Banking headquartered in New York. She also was responsible for the recruitment, training and development of the first Botswana Women Aircraft Engineers and Pilots.
Selotlegeng will have an office in the Women's Center on the fourth floor of Baker University Center.
