ATHENS, Ohio (Jan. 4, 2007) -- William F. Sams has been named executive in residence for project management in University Outreach and Regional Campuses at Ohio University effective Jan. 1.
In his new position, Sams will help Vice President for University Outreach and Regional Campuses Charles P. Bird with the management of projects, especially related to distance education and outreach partnerships. He also will assist the recently created unit in developing its organizational structure.
"Bill is a valuable asset for UORC because of his many years of experience as an upper-level manager," Bird said. "With the recent expansion of the office, there are many projects that could use extra professional attention, and Bill can provide that."
Sams recently stepped down as associate provost for information technology and chief information officer at the university, a position he began on an interim basis in September 2004. During his tenure, he led efforts at the university to improve the student information system, improve classroom technology and implement the Go Mobile laptop computer program.
"I am excited about this opportunity because it provides me with a new challenge," Sams said.
Sams arrived at Ohio University with 25 years of management experience in Silicon Valley. He also served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Ohio University and a juris doctor from the University of Santa Clara.
