From staff reports
Ohio football is on the air, but not all the action is on the field. The stories of Ohio University, its students and faculty will be featured during the halftimes of Bobcat games being broadcast on Guardian Television Network.
Ohio Athletics recently announced that GTN will broadcast 15 sports contests, including five football games, for the 2007-08 season. Ohio University Communications and Marketing is producing "Ohio Update," five-minute segments spotlighting the academics, history and achievements of Ohio University. President Roderick J. McDavis also will deliver a message to viewers during the football games' halftimes.
"This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the incredible talent and achievements of the Ohio University community, both on and off the field," said Joe Brennan, executive director of communications and marketing. "By catching 'Ohio Update' at halftime, prospective students and parents will get a taste of Ohio University, and alumni will be able to reconnect."
The first segment, which airs during halftime of Saturday's game against Gardner-Webb, will feature the university's history and its connection to the founding and expansion of the young nation. Another edition of the show will focus on how the Green and White of Ohio are truly "going green" with environmental programs and research focusing on alternative energy sources. Other shows are in production and will explore impressive academic endeavors at Ohio University.
The show also will have a home on the Web at www.ohio.edu/ohioupdate.
Tom Bosco, a 1992 graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and a Columbus broadcast journalist, will host the show. Bosco spent the spring and summer as a writer for Communications and Marketing, contributing frequently to the university's news and information source, Outlook.
GTN is an over-the-air station available throughout central Ohio on channel 51 as well as through cable and satellite systems.
