ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (April 2, 2007) -- Children who will be going into the fifth and sixth grades this fall are invited to participate in Junior Bobcat Camp this summer at Ohio University's Eastern Campus.
Students can choose to attend either the week of June 11-15 or June 18-22, 9am - 3pm each day. The registration form and $75 fee must be received by May 25. Each student will receive a Junior Bobcat t-shirt.
The day camp is designed to get the children outside and active as much as possible. They will learn by doing. "The Junior Bobcats have so much fun doing some of the activities during a session, that when we have free-time, they ask to do those same activities again," said Crystal Lorimor, coordinator of Junior Bobcat Camp. "The first year it shocked me. Now some of the activities are just part of our tradition." This year's topics will include: a boundary-line hike, origami, ecology, trees, medieval knights, geocaching, photography, teambuilding, and theater. Faculty, staff, and alumni of Ohio University Eastern Campus teach the sessions.
All children should wear clothes that can get dirty and bring raincoats in case of rain. "In two years, it has rained only once, but we didn't let that stop us. We put on our raincoats and ponchos and went outside," said Lorimor.
A Family Event is scheduled for the Friday evening of each week at 7pm. At that time the children can show their parents and other family members what they learned during the week. "It's fun to watch the expression on the parents' faces when they see the Junior Bobcats in action. These kids are wonderful, and we, the adults, have as much fun as they do," Lorimor said.
All Junior Bobcats will need to bring a sack lunch each day. Water will be provided throughout the day.
