ATHENS, Ohio (Sept. 28, 2005) -- Corinna E. Lathan, founder, president and CEO of AnthroTronix, Inc., a biomedical and human factors engineering product development company, will present a free, public lecture Tuesday, Oct. 4, at noon in Stocker Center 103 on the Ohio University campus.
Lathan will discuss human-computer interface design in military, space and medical rehabilitation robotics. Anna D. Lockerd, a biomedical engineer for AnthroTronix, which is based in Silver Spring, Md., will accompany her.
Specializing in human-technology interaction, AnthroTronix designs, develops and tests systems for government agencies and private sector companies in the defense, space and health care rehabilitation industries.
Lathan has received many prestigious awards for her work with AnthroTronix, including Maryland's Top Innovator of the Year in 2002, MIT Technology Review Magazine's Top 100 World Innovators under the age of 35 and the Women in Technology Leadership Award for Entrepreneurship.
She serves as an adjunct associate professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park and as a consultant to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Lathan received a bachelor's degree in biopsychology and mathematics from Swarthmore College, and an S.M. in aeronautics and astronautics and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from MIT.
Lockerd has work experience in physiological monitoring and assessment, rehabilitation engineering, telerehabilitation, assistive technology and human-computer interface technology. She received a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from The Catholic University of America.
The Society of Women Engineers and the Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology will sponsor the talk, part of the Chemical Engineering seminar series. Pizza and soda will be provided.
