MBA program partnership with Voinovich Center benefits the region

ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 7, 2005) -- Starting this year, all students in Ohio University's Master of Business Administration program will conduct project-related work at the Voinovich Center as part of their 15-month academic curriculum.

Fifty MBA students will work with more than 700 regional businesses in the 2005-2006 school year. At no cost to the individual businesses, students will develop and amend business plans, provide financial assistance, offer counsel and advice and incorporate technology into business operations.

Though this is the first year the entire MBA program has been integrated, the longstanding relationship between the College of Business and the Voinovich Center has produced many successes. Last year, Ohio University MBA students helped regional businesses secure an excess of $20 million in loans, $30 million in new government contracts and nearly $1.5 million from individual investors.

"Ohio University recognizes its unique position and believes in its special obligation to Southeastern Ohio and is committed to actively engaging members of the Ohio University community to be part of the solution to the challenges in our region," said Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis. "The partnership developed between the College of Business and the Voinovich Center illustrates that commitment. This is a partnership that benefits the region and Ohio University students by providing practical learning opportunities."

During the past year, College of Business faculty have been working with Voinovich Center staff members to develop an innovative graduate education experience designed to service the needs of the region and state, while at the same time better preparing graduate students for careers in academic and professional settings.

By integrating the MBA core curriculum with the Voinovich Center's practical application, all MBA students acquire experience in solving real business problems in a variety of industries, refine their professional communication skills and build strong working relationships.
