ATHENS, Ohio (May 23, 2006) -- College of Business Dean Glenn Corlett recently announced that he will retire on June 30, 2007. The Ohio University alumnus has been dean of the college since July 1, 1997.
"I have had a love affair with Ohio University from the first time I visited the campus as a senior in high school," Corlett said. "Working with our outstanding students, talented faculty and dedicated administrators for the last nine years has been a tremendous joy for me and my family. My wife Bonny and I have built friendships with faculty, staff, alumni and the Athens community that will last a lifetime."
A certified public accountant, Corlett was executive vice president and chief operating officer for N.W. Ayer & Partners, an international advertising agency, from 1993 to 1996, and chief financial officer of the company from 1990 to 1995. At Ayer, Corlett supervised media planning and buying, print production, advanced technologies and event marketing subsidiaries. As chief financial officer, he was responsible for all accounting and treasury functions of the company and its foreign and domestic subsidiaries.
Corlett held several positions at Price Waterhouse in Atlanta, Cleveland, Denver and New York from 1970 to 1990, including partner-in-charge of the mergers and acquisitions group.
"Glenn has been a tremendous asset to the College of Business. Under his leadership both the undergraduate and graduate programs have been widely recognized for innovation and distinction," Provost Kathy Krendl said. "He has also greatly enhanced ties with the business and alumni communities. He will be leaving the College in a very strong position, and we are indebted to him for his outstanding service to his alma mater."
The native of Lyndhurst, Ohio, earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Ohio University in 1965 and a juris doctor degree from Ohio State University in 1968. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Duke University in 1983. He worked as an accounting instructor at Jacksonville University from 1969 to 1970. He serves on the boards of Inn-Ohio Inc., Copernicus Therapeutics Inc., Rocky Brands Inc., Grange Insurance Companies, Preformed Line Products Inc. and the Palmer-Donavin Manufacturing Corporation. In addition, Corlett serves on the Ohio Venture Capital Authority.
Corlett also has been involved in Ohio University alumni activities at the university for a number of years. He was a member of the National Alumni Board of Directors from 1978 to 1986, serving as president from 1982 to 1984, and was an Ohio University Foundation trustee from 1985 to 1994. He received the Medal of Merit Award from the Alumni Association in 1991.
