ATHENS, Ohio (May 17, 2006) -- Friends President Art Marinelli met with recipients of the 2006 Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University Research and Creativity Awards on Friday, May 12, to offer congratulations and present their prizes.
Graduate Project award winners are Sreerupa Basu and Venkata Ramani Gidugu. Their project was, "Parametric study of Light Intensity on the growth of 'Chroogloeocystis Sideropohila' in a Photo-Bioreactor and atom determination via gas phase titration." The Undergraduate Project award was claimed by Brooke Watson. Her project was, "The Ohio University Sexual Assault Risk Reduction Program: An Evaluation of the Self-Defense Workshop." Each project received a $100 cash prize from the Friends.
"Supporting students who utilize library resources and facilities for their research projects and creative endeavors fits well into the objectives of the Friends of the Libraries," said Executive Secretary George Bain. "The Friends are happy to be connecting with this annual showcase of student talent."
This is the first time the libraries have presented an award at the Annual Student Research and Creative Activity Fair, sponsored by Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of the President. "Though we have always had a presence at the Fair, we wanted to participate more directly," said John Lamborn, assistant dean for public services. "We appreciate the opportunity provided by the Friends to acknowledge student use of library resources in this manner."
The libraries commend all participants in the 2006 fair for the industry and scholarship demonstrated in their projects.
