Activist "Granny D" to speak at Eastern Campus

ATHENS, Ohio (May 24, 2006) -- The Ohio University Forensics Team earned a 4th place ranking at the National Forensics Association Individual Events Tournament held at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, April 12-17.

Five students competed in nine entries. Daniel DiLorto, a junior from Canton, Ohio, advanced to the quarter-finals in Persuasive Speaking. As a squad, the team placed 4th in the President's III Division, for teams with 1 to 13 members.

While this is an improvement from its eighth-place finish last year, the team hopes to be large enough to move into Division I for the 2006-2007 competitive season.

Dan West, the John A. Cassese Director of Forensics in the School of Communication Studies, is happy with his first year as a coach. "I am an empire builder and we have a solid foundation for next year. It is only fitting that Ohio University should excel at academic competitions like this."
