'Chicken Soup for the Nurse's Soul' co-author to visit Ohio University-Zanesville

ATHENS, Ohio (May 1, 2006) -- National Nurses Week is May 1 to May 7. In appreciation to the service nursing professionals provide, Ohio University-Zanesville, with support from the Alice C. Tom Endowment Fund, is hosting a free program entitled "Chicken Soup for the Nurses Soul." The program, which is open to all nursing professionals, will be held on Tuesday, May 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Ohio University-Zanesville in the Campus Center Conference Room. While the program is free, pre-registration is required.

The speaker for the program is LeAnn Thieman, LPN, CPS co-author of the New York Times bestseller "Chicken Soup for the Nurse's Soul." Thieman is a renowned motivational speaker who has been featured for her personal experience of being "accidentally" caught up in the Vietnam Orphan Airlift in 1975 where she helped rescue 300 babies as Saigon was falling to the Communists.

Thieman will inspire nursing professionals and remind them of the benefits of being a nurse. By sharing stories from the book she co-authored, as well as those from her own 30 years of nursing, Theiman encourages, uplifts and honors nurses for their daily contributions and sacrifices.

Continuing education credit is approved for 2.5 contact hours by Genesis Healthcare System. "We are excited to be providing this celebration and professional development for nurses in our area," said Claire Tiberio, nursing instructor. "The partnerships and support of the Alice Tom Fund and Genesis Healthcare is a tribute to the profession of nursing and we truly appreciate it."

All nursing students and practicing nurses are invited to attend. You may also bring your copy of "Chicken Soup for the Nurse's Soul" for the author to sign. If you wish to purchase a copy, they will be available the evening of the presentation. To reserve a spot for this outstanding professional development program, contact Denise Gebhart at (740) 588-1514 or via e-mail at gebhart@ohio.edu.
