ATHENS, Ohio (June 13, 2006) -- Looking to improve your writing skills? Ohio University Eastern's (OUE) Writing Center is open to all Eastern Campus students.
The Writing Center is under the direction of Jennifer Diamond, assistant professor of English at the Ohio University Eastern Campus. An information center and sign-up area is posted outside of Room 353 on the third floor of Shannon Hall. Students with appointments will receive first priority, but walk-ins can also be accommodated. Extended Writing Center hours will be offered before and during final exam weeks.
The Writing Center specializes in assisting students cultivate the writing skills necessary for college success, which includes understanding the elements of an academic paper. Center services concentrate in developing students' own competencies through assistance with understanding organization and paragraph structure, use and discussion of evidence, and MLA and APA formatting. The Writing Center is a friendly environment where students can feel free to come and seek help with any writing challenge. While proofreading and editing of student work will not be performed, the Center is eager to assist with developing OUE students' skills in these areas.
"The Writing Center will benefit the OUE campus through offering individual assistance with writing. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to use our services and come in with papers that are at all stages of development of ideas, first drafts, and second drafts," says Diamond. Diamond encourages students to take advantage of the Center's services early in the quarter and often.
